Whitney Farms, and our
daughter Allie in particular, suffered a great loss this week with the
sudden passing of A Hunt For Fine Wine. "Merlot" was an incredibly
accomplished horse in his short life, and he will be sorely missed.

Merlot,
I remember the first time I saw you in Jackson, Ms being brought
out to longe. After quite a while of searching for "the one", I knew
you were it. You've given me so much more than good rides, trophies,
high points, and superiors. You taught me what it means to put
everything you have into something you love, no matter the risk. You
taught me the true definition of accepting someone completely,
taking the good with the bad. Time with you made me realize the true
power that can come from the belief in yourself and someone else,
even if you're the only one believing. I've now developed a new
definition of "don't give up" after experiencing all of our triumphs
together. You've helped me to learn what true acceptance of someone
really means, and that sometimes to succeed, you have to give more
of yourself then what your receiving. I now know that the fear of
failing is no comparison to the thrill of overcoming. The great
rides and experiencing your talent has helped me to find and bring
out an even deeper amount of passion and love for not only this
sport, but this way of life and I will owe you that forever. There
is an attachment to you that has been brought out in me by no other.
Please know that no one believed in you more than I did, and to me
you will always be one of the "great ones". Although our time
together was regrettably short-lived, I feel so honored and special
to have owned, ridden, and been a team with you and to have been
able to call you mine then, now, and forever. You were so much more
then just a horse and will be impossible to ever replace. When that
next future win trophy happens for me, know that as I trot up the
center of that pen, I will be thinking of you, thanking you, missing
you. You will always be my own personal, special, and most deserving
Iron Horse. You are so very special to me and will never be
forgotten. I'll carry you with me through every great ride given to
me in the future. Thank you for one of the best years.
I love you "Merl Merl".
-Allie
